The World of Disruptive Technologies and Abundance
Peter is the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Singularity University (SU), the leading institution for the study of exponentially growing technologies. SU was founded with the support of Google, Autodesk, Genetech, Nokia, Cisco and NASA and is located in Silicon Valley. He is also the "New York Times" bestselling author of “ABUNDANCE – The Future Is Better Than You Think,” in which he lays out how we will soon be able to meet and exceed the basic needs of every man, woman and child on the planet. Peter talks passionately and provides insights on the impact of artificial intelligence, computational Systems, digital manufacturing/3-D printing, synthetic biology/bioinformatics digital medicine and robotics and nanomaterials. He talks about the societal transformation from “local and linear” to “global and exponential,” which is accelerating disruptive stress or disruptive opportunity, depending on your organization’s point of view. These technologies are also leading to the greatest epoch of wealth-creation ever, where new billion-dollar startups are coming out of seemingly nowhere at the same time that 50- and 100-year-old, billion-dollar companies are going out of business. Peter also introduces the idea that exponential technologies, the DIY innovator, the "technophilanthropist" and the"rising billion" are conspiring to solve our biggest problems. He examines human need by category — water, food, energy, healthcare, education, communication and freedom — and addresses how a range of powerful technologies such as synthetic biology, embedded networks and cloud computing, AI and robotics, biotechnology and medicine are transforming what was once scarce into something abundant.

It’s a MAD, MAD, MAD Cyber World: Imagine What You Can Do About Cybersecurity and Risk Management
Hackers and state actors have turned the cyber world into an online battle zone where no one is safe without taking measures for protection. Rod Beckstrom will talk about his experience dealing the global cybersecurity scene — the MAD, MAD, MAD world (Nuclear MAD or Mutual Assured Destruction; Cyber MAD; and Internet MAD). He will extend the conversation to the additional MAD that applies to law firms, namely the MADness of managing competing and conflicting IT priorities, projects and systems within constrained budgets. This internal MADness can distract IT staff and make it difficult to deal with external cyber threats and manage the critical time-sensitive and precise legal operations that need to be conducted. In this interactive keynote, Rod will engage the audience in a discussion around concrete actions that can be taken by IT leadership to improve your firm’s security posture. He will introduce the World Economic Forum Principles for Cyber Resilience and extend a call to action — you can become a signatory if you wish. Rod will also engage the audience in an exercise on building resilience through support networks, specifically through your law firm peers and ILTA as a joint community for knowledge-sharing and incident response.
